Kevkhishvili Among Four Nominees for Honda Sports Award

Senior Florida thrower Mariam Kevkhishvili (Tbilisi, Georgia), a four-time NCAA Champion and seven-time All-American, has been named one of four nominees for the 2009-10 Honda Sports Award, determining the top woman collegiate athlete in the sport of track and field, it was announced Friday afternoon.
The winner after nationwide balloting will become a candidate for The Honda-Broderick Cup awarded annually to the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year.
Kevkhishvili is a four-time NCAA Champion in the shot put, winning three consecutive NCAA indoor championships (2008, 2009, 2010) and the 2009 NCAA outdoor championships. She is a five-time SEC Champion in the shot put and a seven-time All-American.
Kevkhishvili holds the SEC indoor and outdoor meet record in the women's shot put and holds the school record in the indoor women's shot put. Kevkhishvili also ranks second all-time in school history in the outdoor shot put.
Kevkhishvili has, all season long, been on the watch list for The Bowerman, the highest honor awarded to an athlete by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Kevkhishvili has gone undefeated against college competition each of the last two seasons and, in 2010, has been named the SEC Female Field Athlete of the Week five times. Kevkhishvili was the 2009 USTFCCCA Indoor South Region Female Field Athlete of the Year.
Kevkhishvili is just the second person in school history to be named a nominee for the Honda Sports Award in the sport of women's track and field. Anita Howard was a nominee in 1991-92.
