Wednesday, May 26, 2010 | Men's Tennis
Eighth-seeded Florida junior Alexandre Lacroix (Paris, France) opened up play in the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championships with a 6-1, 6-1 first-round win over East Tennessee State's 104th-ranked Charles Bottoni at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
Lacroix advances to the Round of 32 and will face Pepperdine's Bassam Beidas, ranked No. 32 nationally, on Thursday. Beidas posted a 7-6(4), 6-3 first-round victory over 55th-ranked James Meredith of Boise State on Wednesday.
Lacroix is appearing in his second consecutive NCAA Singles Championships, but Wednesday's victory marked his first in the event after he fell in the opening round in 2009.
Lacroix and senior Antoine Benneteau (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) will also compete in the first round of the NCAA Doubles Championships on Thursday, facing Oklahoma's No. 18 pair of Andrei Daescu and Costin Paval. The doubles tournament field consists of 32 of the nation's top pairs.
Lacroix will play his singles match at 10 a.m., and the Gators will play doubles at 5 p.m.
