NCAA East Preliminary Rounds in Weather Delay
Saturday, May 29, 2010 | Track and Field
The NCAA East Preliminary Rounds currently are in a weather delay at Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T University. A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for the Greensboro, N.C., area and officials have cleared the stadium at this time.
Events were halted following the completion of the women's 200-meter dash quarterfinals on Friday. The men's and women's steeplechase are the only remaining events on Friday's schedule that have yet to be contested. An official resumption time has not been announced, but an updated release will be disseminated when that information becomes available. Below is a recap of what has happened so far on Friday, the second day of the three-day event.
The University of Florida track and field teams increased their number of qualifiers for Eugene to 12, as five additional Gators advanced to the championship site of their respective events on Friday at Irwin Belk Track.
Junior thrower Kemal Mesic (Sarajevo, Bosnia) placed first in qualifying for the men's shot put to punch his ticket to Eugene. He recorded a mark of 19.16m/62-10.50 on his third attempt and then passed each of the attempts in the finals.

Demps placed fourth overall in the quarterfinals, equaling his season-best time at 10.06 (+1.3), while Wilks was ninth overall in 10.28 (+1.3).
Later in the evening, Wilks qualified for the NCAA quarterfinal round of the men's 200m dash, placing fourth overall in the first round and clocking a time of 20.76. The quarterfinals of the 200m are slated for 7:35 p.m. ET Saturday.
