The University of Florida track and field teams have one more stop on their season-long journey to “Finish the Mission.” The Gators head West to historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., this week to participate in the NCAA Outdoor Championships June 9-12.
For live results and video streaming, as well as the latest ticket information, log on to www.GoDucks.com. The final day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships will be televised live on CBS from 1-3 p.m. ET, while two hours of Friday's competition will air live on CBS College Sports from 8-10 p.m. ET. Ian Eagle will have the call, along with analysts Carol Lewis, Larry Rawson and Dan O'Brien.
Each of Florida's programs enter the meet ranked among the nation's top-10, according to the latest U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll. The Gator men (No. 2) and women (No. 7) each will be seeking their first NCAA Outdoor Championships in program history. The Florida men won their first NCAA Indoor Championship this past March in Fayetteville, Ark., while the UF women won the 1992 NCAA Indoor Title.
It has been a season-long mantra for the Gators to give maximum effort at each meet and not be satisfied with anything except the championship. That goal has resulted in one of the most prosperous years in program history. The women's squad captured the 2009 Southeastern Conference Championship and the 2010 SEC Indoor Championship, while placing fourth nationally at the NCAA Indoor Championship. The men's team won the 2010 NCAA Indoor Championship and captured its first SEC Outdoor Title since 1987.
Florida has qualified 21 slots for the upcoming NCAA Outdoor Championship – 13 on the men's side and eight on the women's side. Senior shot putter Mariam Kevkhishvili (Tbilisi, Georgia), a four-time NCAA Champion and seven-time All-American, will be looking for her second consecutive NCAA outdoor women's shot put title, after claiming the outdoor crown in 2009 and three consecutive indoor titles (2008, 2009, 2010). The Gator men's 4x100-meter relay team also will be looking to win its second consecutive NCAA Championship.
