
Former Florida Throwers Compete at European Championships

Former Florida throwers and NCAA Champions Evelien Dekkers (Etten-Leur, Netherlands) and Mariam Kevkhishvili (Tbilisi, Georgia) will compete in the 20th European Athletics Championships in Barcelona, Spain, beginning on Tuesday.
Dekkers, the 2010 NCAA women's javelin champion and the first woman in school history to claim a national javelin title, recorded a collegiate-best throw of 58.99m/193-7 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships this past June in Eugene, Ore. She will compete in the qualifying round in Tuesday's afternoon session. The finals take place in Thursday's afternoon session.
Kevkhishvili, a five-time NCAA Champion and eight-time All-American in the women's shot put, won her second consecutive NCAA Outdoor Championship this past June in Eugene, Ore. She won her third consecutive NCAA Indoor Championship this past March in Fayetteville, Ark. Her personal best outdoors is 18.46m/60-6.75. The qualifying and finals of the women's shot put take place in Tuesday's afternoon session.
