Women's Tennis to Play for Five Titles at SEC Coaches Fall Classic

The Gators set themselves up to play for the title of five different draws after another fine day of competition at the Southeastern Conference Coaches Fall Classic held at Auburn's Yarbrough Tennis Center on Saturday.
Claire Bartlett (Chattanooga, Tenn.), Caroline Hitimana (Waterloo, Belgium), Olivia Janowicz (Palm Bay, Fla.) and Brittany Borsanyi (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) will play for the title of their respective singles draws, while the doubles team of Bartlett and Janowicz pairs in the Flight 2 final.
One of Florida's best highlights of the day, however, came from junior Joanna Mather (Duluth, Ga.), who notched the biggest run of her career with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Ole Miss' 20th-ranked Kristi Boxx in a Flight 1A first round consolation match.
“We showed some real toughness in some of our matches today,” UF head coach Roland Thornqvist said. “It was very hot and we played a lot of long sets. I'm very proud of us because we were so tough. Our goal coming into this tournament was to find the areas we needed to work on for the rest of the fall and the fact that we're fighting so hard and playing with so much energy is a great sign. We want to be the best team on day three. Everyone is going to be tired, but our goal is to fight on the final day.”
The second day of action began with split results for the Gators on the doubles court. The team of Bartlett and Janowicz defeated Kentucky's Megan Broderick and Jessica Stiles, 8-5, in the semifinals. They will play Vanderbilt's Erica Robertson and Chelsea Preeg for the Flight 2 championship on Sunday.
UF's other doubles team of Alex Cercone and Hitimana wasn't as fortunate, falling 9-7 to Ole Miss' Kristi Boxx and Abby Guthrie in the Flight 1 semifinals. Cercone and Hitimana will face Georgia's Nadja Gilchist and Kate Fuller in the third-place match on Sunday.
