Former University of Florida All-American Phillip Choi has qualified for his first-career PGA Tour event, the 2011 McGladrey Classic. The event, which takes place at the Seaside Couse in Sea Island, Ga., runs from Thursday, Oct. 13, to Sunday, Oct. 16. All four rounds of the event will be televised live on the Golf Channel.
Choi, who recently turned pro after a successful sophomore season, had an impressive career in the Orange and Blue, recording 10 top-10 finishes and a win at the John Hayt Invitational in 2011. For his impressive accomplishment, Choi was named a 2011 First Team All-SEC honoree and a 2011 PING Second Team All-American.
Choi is one of six former Gators that will be part of the field at the McGladrey Classic. Joining Choi in the talented field are former Gator greats Chris Couch, Billy Horschel, Brian Gay, Chris DiMarco and Will Strickler.
In addition to the six Gators playing on the PGA Tour this weekend, four former Gators, Camilo Benedetti, Bubba Dickerson, Matt Every and Manuel Villegas, will tee it up in the Miccosukee Championship, a Nationwide Tour event held at the Miccosukee Golf and Country Club in Miami.
