Federhofer and Slilam Advance to Doubles Final of USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships

The doubles team of junior Billy Federhofer (North Miami, Fla.) and senior Nassim Slilam (Paris, France) advanced to the doubles final of the 2011 USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships, hosted by the University of Georgia at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens.
Federhofer and Slilam, the No. 1-seeded doubles team in the event, earned an 8-6 win over Georgia's Ignacio Taboada and Hernus Pieters in the doubles semifinal on Sunday. The Gator duo will face UGA's Wil Spencer and Garrett Brasseaux in the final on Monday with a chance to advance to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships, held at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., November 3-6.
Spencer and Brasseaux knocked out the other remaining Florida tandem on Sunday, defeating sophomore Andrew Butz (Vero Beach, Fla.) and junior Bob van Overbeek (Boca Raton, Fla.) in the second semifinal by a score of 8-3.
Slilam and sophomore Spencer Newman (Miami, Fla.) each lost in the quarterfinals of singles draw on Sunday. No. 3 seed Slilam lost to No. 6 seed Kevin King from Georgia Tech in a three-set match, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Newman, who upset the tournament's No. 2 seed on Saturday, fell to Georgia's Pieters in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
