Media Pegs Gator Men's Basketball to Finish Third in SEC
Monday, October 24, 2011 | Men's Basketball
Members of the SEC and national media have selected the University of Florida men's basketball team to finish third in the SEC behind Vanderbilt and Kentucky, the conference announced today.
The Gators return two starters and seven letterwinners from last season's Elite Eight team that posted a 29-8 record and won the SEC with a 13-3 conference mark.
Additionally, a pair of Gators landed on the media's all-conference teams in Erving Walker (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Kenny Boynton (Pompano Beach, Fla.), who were both selected to the Second Team.
Walker, a two-time Second Team All-SEC selection, is coming off an impressive season where he led the Gators in points (539) and steals (41) while starting every game for the Orange and Blue. Boynton, a Second Team All-SEC selection a season ago, also had an impressive 2010-11 campaign for UF where he tallied 14.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 37 games.
UF opens its 2011-12 season with an exhibition matchup with Catholic University on Thursday, Nov. 3, at the O'Connell Center at 7 p.m. The Gators open their regular season on Friday, Nov. 11, when they host Jackson State at 7 p.m.
