University of Florida head coach Roland Thornqvist addressed the media Monday morning as part of the Gators' All-Sports Media Day.
Thornqvist said that after training for four weeks, he is ready to see how the team performs against good competition at the ITA All-American Championships in California. Thornqvist also discussed the improvement from the freshman to sophomore year-jump of Olivia Janowicz, Alex Cercone and Sofie Oyen. He also said that even though the team won a national title last year, it is looking forward to this year with new goals and making sure it doesn't get satisfied with what it did last year.
This week, the majority of the team will be at the 2011 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships held at the Riviera Tennis Center in Pacific Palisades, Calif. This national event includes the top singles and doubles players in the country and is considered the first leg of the collegiate Grand Slam. The qualifying singles and doubles draws will be contested Oct. 4-5, with main draw action taking place Oct. 6-9.
