Muschamp says freshman CB Roberson out for rest of season with neck injury

Florida head coach Will Muschamp opened his Monday press conference by announcing that true freshman cornerback Marcus Roberson will not play again this season due to a neck injury sustained in Saturday's 17-12 loss at South Carolina.
Roberson has started all 10 games, registering 22 tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery. He often has been matched against the opponent's top receiver.
Muschamp said with Roberson out, the rest of the group that includes sophomore Cody Riggs, senior Moses Jenkins and freshmen Jaylen Watkins and Louchiez Purifoy will receive increased playing time. The Gators remain without junior cornerback Jeremy Brown, who has not played this season due to a knee injury he suffered in fall camp.
The Gators want to play it safe with Roberson, a talented player from St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale. He had one tackle in the loss to the Gamecocks.
"He injured his neck in the game. We're still evaluating him,'' Muschamp said. "It's nothing that is going to be permanent. He'll be fine in four to six weeks.
"He strained his neck there and they are just taking precautionary measures obviously with something like that. But he'll be fine. He is going to be back for spring but he will miss the rest of the season.''
