When junior jumper Christian Taylor (Fayetteville, Ga.) opened up his first triple jump competition of the 2011 season with a win on Saturday in Blacksburg, Va., he also extended the nation's longest NCAA Division I streak of consecutive indoor triple jump victories to six, according to a list maintained by Tom Lewis, Communications Manager at the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Taylor, who won the event at Virginia Tech with an NCAA automatic-qualifying mark of 16.61m/54-6, he became the third Gator this season to automatically qualify for the upcoming NCAA Indoor Championships in the men's triple jump alone.
Taylor has not lost an indoor triple jump competition since placing fifth at the 2009 Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville , Ark., on Feb. 14, 2009.
In all divisions of collegiate track and field, Taylor is tied for the national lead in that category with Chrys Jones of Centre College in Danville, Ky. Jones has won six triple jump competitions in a row, dating back to the 2008 NCAA Championships.
