Back on track: Jeff Demps' future remains on track and on football field

That left foot injury that hampered Jeff Demps during football season is no longer keeping him grounded.
In his first track meet of the season on Friday at the Virginia Tech Elite Meet, Demps won the 60-meter in 6.57 seconds, the second-best time of his career. Demps ran a school-record 6.56 a year ago.
Demps' performance qualified him for the NCAA Indoor Championships and announced that whatever questions remained about his foot can be tossed aside.
“Not any concerns with Jeff at all,'' Gators track coach Mike Holloway said Monday. “There are no issues with Jeff's foot.''
Demps won the indoor national title in the 60-meter dash last season. As far as any questions about Demps remaining a two-sport athlete with new football coach Will Muschamp replacing Urban Meyer, Holloway said to expect to see Demps in football pads come spring.
“There are no issues in terms of Jeff competing in track and field,'' Holloway said. “When Jeff was recruited here, he was promised he would be able to do both. Coach Muschamp and I have had a lengthy conversation.
“Jeff Demps is a track guy right now and we fully expect him to be back in football in the spring. He ran the second-fastest time of his career, so I think his foot is OK.'
