Wednesday, March 23, 2011 | Track and Field
The University of Florida men's track and field team is rated No. 1 in the 2011 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division I Men's Preseason Outdoor Computer Rankings, the New Orleans-based organization announced Wednesday. The Gators, who are two-time defending NCAA Indoor Championships, have finished second at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in each of the last two seasons.
The Gators are No. 1 in the USTFCCCA Outdoor Preseason Rankings, followed by No. 2 Texas A&M and No. 3 Texas Tech. Florida State (No. 4) and LSU (No. 5) round out the USTFCCCA's top-five.
Florida enters the 2011 outdoor season coming off its second consecutive NCAA Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas, two weeks ago. The Gators scored 52 total team points to earn a 12-point victory over second-place Texas A&M. Florida came up just a point shy at last season's NCAA Outdoor Championships, earning second place for the second consecutive season at that event.
Florida returns three defending NCAA individual champions on the men's side in Jeff Demps (men's 100m), Christian Taylor (men's triple jump) and the men's 4x100-meter relay, which has won the event in back-to-back years.
