Fawn Miller Named SEC Women's Freshman of the Week
Wednesday, May 11, 2011 | Track and Field
Freshman Florida thrower Fawn Miller (Stoneboro, Pa.) has been named the Southeastern Conference Women's Freshman of the Week for her outstanding performance in the Seminole Twilight Invitational this past weekend, the league offices in Birmingham, Ala., announced Tuesday.
Miller, who picks up her first career SEC weekly honor, won the women's javelin event at the Seminole Twilight Invitational on Friday, using the third-best throw in program history. She tallied a mark of 49.45m/162-3 to shatter her previous personal-best mark of 46.60m/152-11.
Miller becomes just the third person in program history to throw better than 160 feet, and that mark goes down as tops in the SEC this season. She currently ranks 17th in the nation in the women's javelin and is the country's third-ranked freshman in that event.
Miller and the Florida track and field team returns to action on Thursday when they begin participation in the four-day 2011 SEC Outdoor Championships at the Spec Towns Track in Athens, Ga.
