GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The University of Florida swimming program placed three student-athletes on the 2010-11 Capital One Academic All-District III At-Large Team, College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday. Recognizing the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance in their sport and in the classroom, junior swimmer Teresa Crippen (Conshohocken, Pa.) was named to the women's second team. On the men's side, 2011 NCAA Champion Brett Fraser (George Town, Cayman Islands) was selected to the men's first team, while sophomore Cameron Martin (Clearwater, Fla.) made his debut on the men's second team.
One year after making the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team and helping lead Florida's women to its first NCAA team title in 28 years, Crippen was selected to the second team with a 3.66 GPA in sport management. The three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection recently capped off her junior campaign with four All-America honors (11 career) at the NCAA Championships in March. One month earlier at her home pool in Gainesville, the U.S. National Team member captured the 200-yard butterfly title at the SEC Championships, while earning three All-SEC selections (8 career).
Fraser was named to the first team after notching a 3.43 GPA in finance. The three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection wrapped up his collegiate career in March by capturing two national titles at the 2011 NCAA Championships. This marks the second consecutive season Fraser has been named to the District III At-Large Team. Fraser now advances to the Capital One Academic All‐America Team ballot, where first‐, second‐ and third‐team All‐America honorees will be selected later this month.
Making the list for the first time was Martin, who racked up a 3.83 GPA in neurobiological sciences. The native Floridian earned honorable mention All-America honors for the first time in his career this past March in the 200 fly at the NCAA Championships, and soon after was named to the 2010-11 SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll, also for the first time.
Also being selected to the men's second team was UF senior and 2011 SEC Men's Golfer of the Year Bank Vongvanij (Bradenton, Fla.), who earned a 3.83 GPA in finance. The addition of Vongvanij makes Florida the only school in District III with three men selected to the at-large squad.
