Bottazzo Takes Second in 100 Breast; Monroy Earns Fourth on 1-Meter at NCAA Championships

ATLANTA, Ga. – On day two of the Women's NCAA Division I Championships at the McAuley Aquatic Center, Florida's Anita Bottazzo and Camyla Monroy collected hardware, with Bottazzo placing second in the 100 breast and Monroy earning fourth on the 1-meter springboard.
Following nine events, the Gators sit 10th in the team standings with 62.5 points.
Bottazzo captured her first NCAA individual podium finish after touching the wall in 57.00 to tie with Tennessee's McKenzie Siroky for 16.50 points. The sophomore, seeded second entering finals, dropped 0.34 seconds off her prelim time to secure her first top-eight All-American honor and career-best NCAA finish.
Monroy earned her second All-American honor in the 1-meter and recorded her best NCAA finish with a finals score of 318.25. The junior improved from her prelims 295.60 score to contribute 15 points to Florida's total.
Morning Session
The Gators had at least one Gator competing in each of Thursday's five individual events.
100 Butterfly
Making their NCAA's debut, freshmen Beatriz Bezerra and Grace Rabb opened the morning with a one-two finish in heat two, as Bezerra won in 51.76 and Rabb followed in 51.91. The pair reset their No. 7 and No. 8 marks on Florida's all-time top-10 list, improving on their performances from a month ago at the SEC Championships to place 24th and 31st overall, respectively.
400 IM
Julie Brousseau and Camille DeBoer competed for Florida, posting finishes of 25th (4:09.82) and 40th (4:14.19), respectively.
200 Freestyle
Lainy Kruger, seeded fifth in heat three, finished third in her heat with a time of 1:44.17, placing 26th overall
100 Breaststroke
Molly Mayne also competed in the final individual swimming event of the morning with Bottazzo, touching the wall in 59.81 to place 26th overall.
1-Meter Diving
Alexa Fung scored 256.10 in her first NCAA appearance, finishing 23rd to conclude her freshman campaign.
UP NEXT
Championship action continues tomorrow with the 100 back, 200 breast, 500 free, 50 free, 400 medley relay morning events starting at 10 a.m., followed by 3-meter diving at 12:15 p.m. The top-eight finishers in each event and the top-eight seeded relays will compete in the 6 p.m. finals session. Diving finals will be split, with Rounds 1-3 following the 200 breast and Rounds 4-6 taking place after the 50 free.

Swimmers qualified for the championships either by winning their conference championship in an event with an established minimum time in that swim or by meeting the established minimum time for the events in which they entered. The invited divers earn their automatic spot at zone meets in the weeks prior. In total, the meet has a limit of 322 athletes divided equally by 21 events (18 swimming and three diving).
