
Weekend Look Back: Softball Advances To Super Regional, Baseball Shares SEC Title, Big Weekends For M&W Golf

The softball team advanced to the Super Regional with a victory over defending champ UCLA, women's golf finished in the top 10 at the NCAA Championships, baseball tied for the SEC crown while lacrosse's storybook season came to an end in the Weekend Look Back.
Softball
The Gators advanced to the Super Regional round and will host Oregon this weekend after defeating defending national champion UCLA yesterday, 11-3. According to GatorZone.com Senior Writer Scott Carter, the Gators cleared a major hurdle in doing so.
The Gators got to Sunday by defeating Bethune-Cookman, 8-0 on Friday and then beating UCLA by a 4-2 score on Saturday.
Next up for the Gators in the NCAA Super Regional at Pressly Stadium this weekend. The Gators host Oregon at 2 p.m. on Friday, then at noon on Saturday, and if necessary, 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Baseball
The Gator baseball team shared a piece of the SEC title with South Carolina and Vanderbilt after taking two of three against Kentucky this weekend. On Thursday night the Gators took the opener, 9-6, behind the red-hot bat of Mike Zunino who homered twice and drove in five runs.
After Kentucky rebounded with a 14-1 win on Friday, the Gators closed out the regular season with a convincing 19-3 victory on Saturday afternoon behind the pitching of freshman Karsten Whitson to clinch a share of the league crown.
The Gators now turn their attention to the SEC Tournament and will be the No. 3 seed, drawing No. 6 seed Mississippi State in the opener on Wednesday afternoon.
Golf
The women's golf team secured the program's 18th top 10 finish, finishing in a tie with Vanderbilt for 10th place. Andrea Watts tied for 15th individually, while Mia Piccio tied for 19th.
The men's team advanced to the NCAA Championships in Stillwater next week by virtue of a victory in the NCAA Regional round held at Golden Ocala. Florida won the event by six strokes over Augusta State, while Andres Echavarria placed fourth and Bank Vongvanij tied for sixth overall.
Tennis
The women's tennis team continues its quest for the NCAA title with a semifinal match-up with UCLA on Monday evening (7 p.m. ET). Over the weekend, the Gators got there by virtue of hard-fought victories over Clemson and Miami. The Gators defeated Clemson 4-1 in the Round of 16 on Friday afternoon, then Miami by the same score on Sunday.
The Gators are looking for their first national title since 2003.
Lacrosse
Lacrosse's storybook season came to an end in the NCAA quarterfinal round, as the fourth-ranked Gators fell to No. 5 Duke, 13-9, at Dizney Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
In just their second year of competition, the Gators finished the year 16-4 while winning the ALC regular season title.
