GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida assistant women's golf coach Jay Goble will continue his coaching career as the head women's golf coach at Baylor University, announced Tuesday afternoon by the institution. Goble joined Florida's staff in July 2008 and spent three full seasons in Gainesville after previously serving as an instructor at the David Leadbetter Golf Academy at the IMG Academies in Bradenton, Fla.
Goble departs for Waco, Texas after guiding the Gators to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2008 this past season as Florida finished in a tie for 10th on the sport's biggest stage with a lineup that included just one senior, two juniors and two sophomores. The Orange and Blue also captured its home tournament – the SunTrust Gator Women's Invitational – posting an impressive 18-stroke margin of victory that was the third-largest ever for Florida in the event, and the winning team score of 865 was the second-lowest team score in the history of the tournament.
Florida reached the postseason and improved in each of Goble's three seasons in Gainesville. In 2009, the Orange and Blue finished 16th in the NCAA East Regional, eight spots shy of the top-eight finish needed to qualify for the NCAA Championships. The following season, the Gators placed 11th in the NCAA East Regional and in the 2011 NCAA East Regional, secured a berth in the NCAA Championships after landing in seventh.
His relationships formed in Bradenton paid dividends in attracting top talent as five players on the current UF roster attended IMG and Goble excelled in developing players once they arrived on campus. During his tenure, he mentored two-time All-SEC honoree Jessica Yadloczky and 2011 Second Team All-SEC selection Mia Piccio while 2010 Second Team All-SEC and All-Freshman Team member Isabelle Lendl and 2009 All-Freshman Team member Evan Jensen both earned recognition in their first seasons under his tutelage.
Goble, who will begin his duties at Baylor on July 1, also served as the Junior Golf Academy Director for the Florida women's golf program.
