The first Florida football player to ever play in a Super Bowl -- former Gator punter and running back Don Chandler -- has died.
Chandler played for the Gators in 1954 and '55, leading the nation in punting his senior season after transferring from Bacone (Okla.) College. According to the Gainesville Sun, Chandler passed away in Tulsa, Okla., on Thursday from cancer at the age of 76.
Chandler played nine seasons for the New York Giants and later spent three years with Vince Lombardi's Green Bay Packers, winning Super Bowl rings in Super Bowl I and Super Bowl II with the Packers.
Chandler played in both games and still shares the Super Bowl record with four field goals in Green Bay's 33-14 win over the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl II.
Chandler, inducted into both the UF Hall of Fame and Packers Hall of Fame, also hit the 25-yard field goal in overtime against the Baltimore Colts to clinch the Western Conference title at Lambeau Field in 1965.
