Thirty Six Gators to Compete at 2011 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships
Tuesday, August 2, 2011 | Women's Swimming & Diving
Although many Florida swimmers just wrapped up competition at the 14th FINA World Championships, 36 Gators, both past and present, are currently in Palo Alto, Calif. to compete in the 2011 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships at Stanford University's Avery Aquatic Center.
The event, which will span from Aug. 2-6, serves as a selection meet for the 2011 Pan American Games and the 2011 FINA World Junior Championships.
Former UF swimmers and All-Americans Conor Dwyer (Winnetka, Ill.), brothers Brett and Shaune Fraser (George Town, Cayman Islands), Ryan Lochte (Daytona Beach, Fla.), Joey Pedraza (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) and Sharra Stafford (Topeka, Kan.) will take to the pool in Palo Alto. Lochte is fresh off of a thrilling performance at Worlds where he captured five gold and one bronze medal, and became the first person to break a world record following the ban of polyurethane suits.
Also on deck at the National Championships are Gators and USA National Team members Elizabeth Beisel (North Kingstown, R.I.) and Teresa Crippen (Conshohocken, Pa.). Both competed for the U.S. at the 14th FINA World Championships. Beisel took home her first individual world title in the 400 IM and finished fifth in the 200 back, while Crippen finished 14th in the 200 fly.
A handful of incoming freshmen will also be present to compete in the national competition: Lauren Neidigh (Orange Park, Fla.), Rebecca Rainer(Richmond, Va.), Matthew Curby (Oviedo, Fla.), Matthew Elliott (Peoria, Ill.), Colin Hamilton (Jacksonville, Fla.), Austin Ringquist (Hillsboro, Ore.) and Billy Silva (Gainesville, Fla.).
