Gator Baseball Announces Fall Practice Schedule
Tuesday, September 20, 2011 | Baseball
The University of Florida baseball team will open its fall practice session on Saturday, Sept. 24, at McKethan Stadium. The entire squad will have workouts, including several scrimmages, between Sept. 24 and Nov. 4.
The team has been conducting individual workouts and conditioning drills since the beginning of the fall semester. Head coach Kevin O'Sullivan begins his fifth season at the helm and is joined by assistant coaches Craig Bell, Brad Weitzel and Don Norris.
"We are all excited about getting on the field again,” O'Sullivan said. “The Fall will allow us to evaluate our players and determine roles for the pitching staff. We have a very good core of players returning a talented group of newcomers that should make the fall practice competitive.”
Practices during the week will be held Tuesday and Wednesday at 3:15 p.m., Thursday at 4 p.m., Friday at 3:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m. The schedule can be subject to change depending on weather or other events held on campus.
The Gators will begin their 2012 campaign next February at McKethan Stadium. Last season, Florida finished with a school-record 53 wins and was the runner-up at the NCAA College World Series for the second time with an overall record of 53-19. In a campaign filled with highlights, O'Sullivan's club shared the SEC Championship with South Carolina and Vanderbilt, captured its first SEC Tournament title since 1991, swept the NCAA Gainesville Regional and claimed the NCAA Gainesville Super Regional on its way to Omaha for second-straight season and the seventh time in the program's history. UF returns 18 letterwinners, including seven position starters and nine pitchers, and welcomes its fourth-consecutive top-10 recruiting class.
