
Claye, Taylor Advance to IAAF World Championships Triple Jump Final

Former Gator NCAA Champions Will Claye (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Christian Taylor (Fayetteville, Ga.) have been having marquee performances at the 2011 IAAF World Championships in Daegu. The two All-Americans, who recently turned pro this summer, are both competing in the triple jump in Korea while Claye also competed in the long jump.
Claye participated in the qualifying round of the long jump, finishing fourth in his heat with a leap of 8.09m/26-6.50 (+0.1) and advancing to the finals held Friday. Claye placed ninth with a jump of 8.10m/26-7.0 (+0.1) in his first World Championship finals of his career.
Claye then began competition against his former Florida teammate Taylor in the triple jump, the preliminary round of which began on Friday. Claye took first in the qualifying round with a leap of 17.19m/56-4.77 (-0.4), advancing to the championship round. Taylor advanced with a jump of 16.99m/55-8.89 (+0.9), good for fifth in the qualifying round out of six total qualifiers.
Claye and Taylor will compete in the finals of the triple jump at 7:05 p.m. KST on Sunday, September 4th (Sunday, September 4th, 6:05am EST).
