Florida defeated Florida State 33-26 at Tallahassee, as a young, first-year Seminoles coach by the name of Bobby Bowden tasted the burgeoning rivalry for the first time.
Willie Wilder rushed for 98 yards and Tony Green for 90 more, with the Gators racking up 507 yards of total offense, more than half on the ground.
The Seminoles moved the ball to the UF 6 in the final minute, but could not score on the game's last two plays.
The game (that's the $1 program to the right) marked the last time UF-FSU played in October, with legislators successfully lobbying to move the game to the end of the season.
