In unforgiving Gainesville heat and humidity, underdog Florida held off fifth-ranked LSU for a 14-7 victory.
Gators coach Ray Graves credited his team's second-half stamina -- in 102-degree temperatures -- to an experimental energy drink given to the players during the game by UF professor and researcher Robert Cade.
Graves and his players nicknamed it “Cade's Cola,” but eventually the drink got a different name.
That would, of course, be “Gatorade.
Forty-seven years later, more than 12 million bottles are chugged around the world each day.
