Gators Open Play at 2012 USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships

Three Florida men's tennis players advanced to the Round of 32 Singles Main Draw on Friday at the 2012 USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships in Tallahassee. One pair of Gators advanced to the Quarterfinals of the Doubles Main Draw.
Seniors Billy Federhofer (North Miami) and Bob van Overbeek (Boca Raton) each won their first round matches on Friday, while junior Florent Diep (Paris, France) also advanced to the Round of 32 with a victory. Sophomore Mike Alford (Tampa) and freshman Luke Johnson (Leeds, England) dropped their opening matches and will play in consolation singles on Saturday.
In doubles, Alford and Diep teamed up to win two matches and advance to the Quarterfinals. Federhofer paired with freshman Gordon Watson (Naples) and won two matches before falling in the Round of 16. Johnson and van Overbeek lost in the Round of 64.
Play will continue tomorrow with the Round of 32 and Round of 16 in the Singles Main Draw and Singles Consolation Draw. The Quarterfinals of the Doubles Draw will also be played on Saturday.
