Diep Advances to Singles Final of 2012 USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships

Junior Florent Diep (Paris, France) beat teammate Bob van Overbeek (Boca Raton) to advance to the finals of the Singles Main Draw at the 2012 USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships in Tallahassee. Mike Alford (Tampa) advanced to the finals of the Consolation Singles Draw.
Diep opened the day with a three-set win over No. 3 seed Hernus Pieters of Georgia. After dropping the first set 3-6, Diep fought back and took the final two sets, 6-4, 6-4. Van Overbeek beat No. 7 seed Jordan Kelly Houston, from Florida State, 7-5, 6-3, to advance to the semifinals to face Diep.
In the semifinal between the two Gators, Diep jumped on top first, taking the first set 6-1. Van Overbeek took the second set, 4-6, but Diep earned the deciding set, 6-4. Diep will take on Georgia State's Victor Valente in the finals of the Singles Main Draw on Monday beginning at 10 a.m.
Alford will face Georgia Tech's Nathan Rakitt in the Consolation Singles final on Monday.
Alford and Diep fell to Juan Spir and Vikram Hundal of Georgia Tech in the semifinals of the Doubles Main Draw.
Play will continue tomorrow with the finals of the Singles Main Draw and Singles Consolation Draw. Complete results and brackets for the event can be found online through Florida State's web site.
