Gators to Participate in Strike Out Hunger Food Drive
Wednesday, November 14, 2012 | General
The University Athletic Association, Inc. is proud to announce its participation in the Alachua County Community-Wide Strike Out Hunger Food Drive. The food drive drop off locations will be available at four different Gator sporting events from November 16-20. Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable items before each game to fill Holiday Food Boxes.
Last year, the drive collected over 67,000 pounds of non-perishable foods for local food banks and pantries and distributed over 560 Thanksgiving Baskets to needy families in the Alachua County area. The overall goal for this year's drive is 100,000 pounds. Donations will benefit over 10 organizations such as the Bread of the Mighty Food Bank and the Salvation Army that support families in need within Alachua County.
There will be opportunities for people to bring items before volleyball matches on Friday, November 16 and Sunday, November 18 (Gate 1 Drop Off Location). On Saturday before the football game against Jacksonville State, bins will be available at the Verizon Gator FanFest for people to drop off any donations.
