Women's Golf to Open Spring Season in California on Monday

University of Florida women's golf team travels West for the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, Monday, February 13th through Wednesday, February 15th, in Palos Verdes, California. The tournament will be played at the Palos Verdes Golf Club, which is a par-71 and will play at 5,912 yards. There will be one 18-hole round each day at the Ohio State hosted tournament.
“I love going out west. I try to get a trip out west once or twice a year for a lot of different reasons; one is weather; two is to be competing against the best teams in the country,” head coach Jan Dowling said. “Right now the number one team is UCLA. In order to beat them, we've got to play them. It's also a great measuring stick for us as we head into the rest of our spring.”
UF will enter the Northrop Grumman with a lineup led by freshman Camilla Hedberg (Sitges, Spain) and junior Mia Piccio (Bacolod City, Philippines). Piccio and Hedberg led the Gators during the Fall portion of their schedule with a 73.08 and a 73.50 stroke average, respectively. The Gators' lineup is rounded out by senior Andrea Watts (Bradenton, Fla.), senior Evan Jensen (Belleair, Fla.) and junior Isabelle Lendl (Goshen, Conn.).
The entire field, which features top-ranked UCLA, is either ranked or receiving votes in the final GolfWorld/NGCA Coaches' Poll of the Fall season. Tee times start at 11:30 a.m. ET on holes one and 10 on Monday and Tuesday, while a shotgun start is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET on Wednesday.
“Can't tell you how excited I am to get going. The Northrop Grumman is a wonderful event,” Dowling said. “The Gators have been heading to this tournament for quite a few years in a row.”
This year's Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge marks the 12th straight season the Gators have attended the event. Last season UF finished 8th out of 13 teams.
