Coach Holloway Previews the SEC Indoor Championships
Monday, February 20, 2012 | Track and Field
University of Florida track and field head coach Mike Holloway addressed the media Monday morning as part of the Gators' All-Sports Media Day.
Coach Holloway recapped the Gators' efforts both in New Mexico at the Don Kirby Collegiate Elite and in Washington at the Flotrack Husky Classic.
Coach Holloway continued by speaking about the upcoming 2012 SEC Indoor Championships, hosted by the University of Kentucky. Holloway remarked that having returners who have won both SEC individual titles and the SEC team crowns isn't an advantage, but that he feels having returners who are experienced in winning championships makes both squads more prepared.
"We expect to go in and fight for championships,” Holloway said. “That's what we do here."
The Orange and Blue begin competition at the SEC Indoor Championships on Friday, February 24 with the opening events of the heptathlon and the pentathlon. The meet runs through Sunday, February 26 and information can be found here.
Overall, the Gators boast seven SEC Champions returning indoors, including junior sprinter Jeff Demps (Winter Garden, Fla.) (60m), senior multi-event athlete Gray Horn (Waynesfield, Ohio) (heptathlon), sophomore hurdler Eddie Lovett (West Palm Beach, Fla.) (60mH), junior sprinter Tony McQuay (Riviera Beach, Fla.) (200m), senior thrower Kemal Mesic (Sarajevo, Bosnia) (shot put), senior thrower Fidela James (Jacksonville, Fla.) (weight throw) and sophomore distance runner Cory McGee (Pass Christian, Miss.) (mile).
