Gators Host Strong Field for 2012 SunTrust Gator Women's Invitational

After more than two weeks since their last tournament, the Gators will look to defend their crown as defending team champions at their home event, the 2012 SunTrust Gator Women's Invitational, March 16-18, at Mark Bostick Golf Course on the University of Florida campus.
The No. 20th-ranked Florida Gators will look to prove they are up to the tall task of competing against the toughest teams in the country after finishing their last tournament, the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship, with a 10th place finish.
UF has claimed the Gator Women's Invitational title seven times in the last 12 years, and has captured 17 titles overall. Last year, Florida was victorious by 18 strokes over Florida State and had four Gator golfers finish in the top-12 individually.
The SunTrust Gator Women's Invitational is a three-day event set to be played Friday, March 16, through Sunday, March 18. There will be three 18-hole rounds with a round being played each day. Friday and Saturday's rounds are set to begin at 8:51 a.m. with tee times going off Holes one and 10, while Sunday is a shotgun start scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
Admission to the SunTrust Gator Women's Invitational is free to the public. The event has also been designated a Rowdy Reptiles check-in event where students can scan their Gator 1 cards to earn 10 points. Check-in begins Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and will last until 9:30 a.m.
The Gators will compete against 16 other schools in the 2012 SunTrust Gator Women's Invitational. Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi State and Ole Miss make up all the SEC schools in the field. Alabama, the No. 2 ranked team in the country, headlines a field that has seven teams ranked or receiving votes in the latest Golf World/NGCA Coaches' Poll.
