Steve Spurrier Field: Home of the Vols for a day

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Not a lot of Gator in this item.
Just a lot of irony.
The University of Tennessee football team bugged out of Knoxville Thursday for a five-day training camp scheduled to include scrimmage Saturday at Milligan College in Johnson City, Tenn.
If Johnson City sounds familiar, Gators, it should. It's the hometown of former UF coach Steve Spurrier, now at South Carolina, which brings us to the ironic part of the post.
Heavy rains in the area slopped up the field at Milligan, so the Vols had to move their practice Friday to Science Hill High School because of its excellent and durable turf surface that was laid in 2010 in great part through a $100,000 donation from the school's most famous alum. Spurrier was a three-sport star at Science Hill before signing with the Gators in 1963.
So those were the Vols practicing Friday -- get this -- at a place called Steve Spurrier Field.
Tennessee coach Derek Dooley have anything to say about the name of the venue, nor many positive things about his team's workout, calling it a “little lethargic and disappointing.”
Maybe there was some karma involved.
Spurrier is 13-7 all-time vs. the Vols: 1-0 at Duke; 8-4 at Florida and 4-3 at South Carolina.
