Monday, September 17, 2012 | Men's Tennis
Redshirt freshman Gordon Watson (Naples, Fla.) recorded a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory against North Florida's Moritz Buerchner to take the singles championship at the Bedford Cup on Monday, September 17 at the Ring Tennis Complex.
Watson, in his second tournament of his collegiate career, had to go the distance to defeat Buerchner, the 2011 Bedford Cup singles champion.
Mike Alford (Tampa, Fla.) and Florent Diep (Paris, France), looking for their second consecutive doubles title of the fall season, suffered an 8-5 setback in the doubles final to Florida State's Andres Bucaro and Benjamin Lock.
“It was a great week for the whole team,” said assistant coach Amer Delic. “We improved a lot compared to last week's tournament in Athens. We gave ourselves a chance to win both finals. We built on what we did last week and now we will build on this.”
