Kevin Carter, an All-America defensive end and member of three Southeastern Conference championship teams (1991, '93-94), was born in Miami.
Carter starred at Tallahassee Lincoln and was a USA Today and Parade All-American who bypassed a big push from hometown Florida State to become a Gator. His 42.3 tackles for loss and 21.8 career sacks ranked seventh and fifth, respectively, when he finished his UF career, with his 11.5 sacks in '94 the third-most on the Florida books.
In 1995, the St. Louis Rams selected Carter with the sixth overall pick in the NFL draft -- to date, that's tied for the second-highest a Gator has ever been chosen -- and he went on to win a Super Bowl alongside Kurt Warner following the 1999 season.
Carter retired from the NFL after the 2008 season. Over 14 years with four teams (St. Louis, Tennessee, Miami and Tampa Bay), Carter became one of just 29 players in NFL history to record at least 100 sacks, finishing with 104.5, including a career-best 17 in the Rams' NFL championship season.
Inducted into the UF Sports Hall of Fame in 2004, Carter is now a studio analyst for ESPN.
