Gator Women Rebound in Round Two of the Tar Heel Invitational
Saturday, October 12, 2013 | Women's Golf
Moving up five spots from the first day, the Gators women's golf team sits in seventh place on the leaderboard at 10-over (586) going into the final day of the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational.
While freshmen Karolina Vlckova and Maria Torres still represent the top of the Florida lineup, each Gator showed progress on the course today. Redshirt sophomore Katie Mitchell advanced by a stellar seven strokes, shooting the only under-par round (70) for the Gators in day two. Juniors Sarah Schober and Camilla Hedberg improved by five strokes and three strokes, respectively. Competing as an individual, junior Anna Young remained at a steady three-over (75) on the day.
Hedberg, Mitchell and Young all made three birdies on the UNC Finley Golf Course in the second round.
This young Florida team finished round two ahead of six programs ranked in the top-25 and enters the final day of the Tar Heel Invitational with the momentum to improve.
Head Coach Emily Glaser Says: “The girls played hard today and we showed some great depth. I am happy to see them rebound well from yesterday's slow start.”
“We are a young team and we continue to learn and get more comfortable each week. Tomorrow we need to trust our game plan and trust that the putts will fall.”
SEC Showdown: Representing the SEC, No. 2 Alabama jumped 11 spots on the leaderboard to finish round two in second place. No. 19 Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, No. 5 Florida and No. 8 Arkansas all rank in the top-10.
