(Revised Daily Schedule) Women's Tennis Hosts Bedford Cup, Oct. 10-13
Wednesday, October 9, 2013 | Women's Tennis
The Gators play host to the Bedford Cup that begins Thur., Oct. 10 at the Ring Tennis Complex. Action begins each day at 9 a.m. with doubles competition and admission is free.
This is the only home event during the fall for the Gators.
The four-day singles and doubles event features competitors from 9 of 11 different Division I schools within the state of Florida.
There is a 64-player singles draw and a 32-team doubles draw, as well as a consolation draw featuring first-round singles losers only.
Four members of the University of Florida squad will be battling intrastate foes for the trophy, including all three Gator freshmen in Kourtney Keegan, Stefanie Stojic and Belinda Woolcock, as well as senior Olivia Janowicz, who is the top-seed at the Bedford Cup.
Quoting Coach Roland Thornqvist:
“It will be nice to finally play at home.
“We'll get a good look at our players at home and hopefully, we'll have a little bit of a crowd. It's always nice to play at home, particularly during the fall, be able to sleep in our own beds. We're going through a stretch now when we're playing almost every weekend.
“We had a good month of practice in September and hopefully now reap the rewards of that hard work.” – UF head coach Roland Thornqvist
