WHAT IT MEANS: The Gators started their brutal four-game non-conference gauntlet with a huge win, but not without a major scare. The Seminoles rallied from nine points down with just over six minutes to play, tying the game with 28.3 seconds to go. That's when forward Dorian Finney-Smith grabbed an offensive rebound off a missed Scottie Wilbekin jumper, was fouled and hit one of two free throws with 1.3 seconds left. FSU's Ian Miller launched a half-court buzzer beater that was dead-on line, but banged off the rim at the horn.
IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Finney-Smith had a really tough night shooting the basketball, making just two of his 12 field-goal attempts. But he battled on the glass against the much bigger Seminoles, finishing with a game-high 10 rebounds, not bigger than that one at the end.
STAGGERING STATISTIC: UF sophomore guard Michael Frazier went 5-for-8 from 3-point range and is now 22 of 41 for the season. That's 53.6 percent.
SUBPLOT: Hearing something about a football game Saturday.
UP NEXT: The Gators (6-1) go on the road for Monday night ESPN showdown at 13th-ranked Connecticut (7-0). The game will mark UF's first trip ever to Storrs and the first meeting against the Huskies since the 1994 Sweet 16 win in Miami (See Marshall, Donnell).
