Monday, March 11, 2013 | Men's Basketball
Junior center Patric Young (Jacksonville, Fla.) has been named to the 2013 SEC Men's Basketball Community Service Team, the conference announced today. In his time at the University of Florida, Young has volunteered with his Gator teammates at numerous community events.
Young is a member of the Goodwill Gators, a community service program for student-athletes at the University of Florida. Through that organization he is able to connect with children around Alachua County. He has visited children at Shands Hospital, spoke to students at local schools, and helped with holiday gift drives to provide gifts for the less fortunate. Young has excelled in the classroom, as well. He was named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District 4 First Team and was last year's SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year.
The junior center joins a great group of past Gators to be honored as a part of the team. Other honorees include teammate Will Yeguete (Bordeaux, France) (2012), Chandler Parsons (2011), Dan Werner (2010), Walter Hodger (2008 and 2009), Lee Humphrey (2006 and 2007), David Lee (2004 and 2005), Matt Bonner (2001, 2002, and 2003), Brent Wright (2000), and Patrick O'Connor (1999).
