Two University of Florida men's tennis players earned All-Southeastern Conference honors for the 2012-13 season, announced by the league office on Thursday. Florent Diep and Stephane Piro were named to the All-SEC Second Team. The Gators have had multiple All-SEC honorees every year since 1999.
Diep, a junior from Paris, France, had a singles record of 25-18 on the season with a 9-12 mark in dual matches, playing in the top two spots all season. He reached as high as No. 26 in the ITA singles rankings and posted nine wins over ranked singles opponents. Diep clinched the upset victory on the road at No. 7 Ole Miss with a three-set win over No. 84 William Kallberg. He also had a 23-12 overall doubles record and ranked 45th with partner Mike Alford. Diep was 11-7 in dual matches in doubles, including an 8-3 mark in SEC play.
Piro, a junior from Marseille, France, became eligible in January after sitting out last season and had a 15-7 singles record and 12-7 mark in dual matches. Piro played near the top of the lineup all season, including the No. 1 singles position in the last nine dual matches. He has risen to No. 56 in the singles rankings with four wins against ranked opponents, including a win over 10th-ranked Ryan Lipman of Vanderbilt. Piro started his collegiate career with an 8-0 record. He also had a 13-9 doubles record and is currently ranked No. 25 in the doubles rankings with Bob van Overbeek.
Florida finished the season with a 15-10 overall record and a 7-5 mark in SEC play. The Gators currently await the draw for the NCAA Tournament, which will be held Tuesday, April 30, on an NCAA.com webcast at 5 p.m.
