Washington Redskins Select Jordan Reed 85th Overall in 2013 NFL Draft

Former University of Florida tight end Jordan Reed was selected by the Washington Redskins with the 18th pick of the third round in the 2013 NFL Draft. Reed is the fourth Gator to be selected in this year's draft, joining defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd, safety Matt Elam and linebacker Jon Bostic.
“I'm very happy for Jordan,” said Florida head coach Will Muschamp. “He causes match up problems for defenses and is extremely athletic for his size. He hasn't been playing tight end for very long and will continue to grow into the position.”
Reed, who declared for the draft after his junior season, became the first Gator tight end to be chosen in the NFL Draft since Aaron Hernandez was selected in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots.
Washington has drafted 12 Gators, most recently selecting offensive lineman Maurice Hurt in the 2011 NFL Draft.
Reed played in 35 games in his collegiate career, pulling down 79 receptions for 945 yards and six touchdowns. He led the Gators in receiving for the 2012 season with 45 catches for 559 yards and three touchdowns. For his efforts, he was named First Team All-SEC by the Associated Press and second team by the coaches and Phil Steele. He recorded a career-high 85 yards against Louisiana. The New London, Conn., native had five receptions on four occasions (vs. Texas A&M, Tennessee, Georgia, Louisiana). He ranked second on the team in receiving touchdowns. 22 of his receptions were good for a first down and had a team-leading 23 receptions of 10-plus yards. In addition, he led the team or tied for the team-high in receptions in 11 of 12 games.
