Gators Take Over Moscow for 14th IAAF World Outdoor Track & Field Championships
Friday, August 9, 2013 | Track and Field
A strong Gator contingent has arrived in Moscow for the most anticipated track & field competition of the 2013 season, as the 14th IAAF World Outdoor Track & Field Championships are set to take place at Luzhniki Stadium, August 10-18.
16 Gators have been granted the opportunity to represent their countries in Moscow, led by Florida head coach Mike Holloway. The 2013 USTFCCCA National Outdoor Head Coach of the Year, Holloway was chosen as head men's coach for Team USA.
“We are very excited about the team and we had a great training camp over in Linz, Austria” Holloway said in a USA Track & Field press conference upon arrival in Moscow. “I'm really impressed with their preparation; there is a lot of passion and a lot of pride. We have a mixture of youth and experience and we're just excited for the competition.”
Much of that youth comes from the Gators, as freshman Arman Hall (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) is one of the youngest competitors at just 19 years old. Florida track & field athletes participating in this year's World Championships who were also on the 2012-13 roster are Omar Craddock (Killeen, Texas - USA), Marquis Dendy (Middletown, Del. - USA), Hall (USA), Eddie Lovett (West Palm Beach, Fla. – U.S. Virgin Islands), Cory McGee (Pass Christian, Miss. – USA) and Ugonna Ndu (Newark, N.J. – Nigeria).
The Gators' most recent Olympic medalists made the cut for Team USA in Russia, as Will Claye (triple jump), Jeff Demps (4x100-meter relay), Tony McQuay (400 meters, 4x400-meter relay) and Christian Taylor (triple jump). Other London Olympians competing at Luzhniki Stadium over the next nine days are Kerron Clement (USA), Kemal Mesic (Bosnia & Herzegovina), Shara Proctor (Great Britain) and Novlene Williams-Mills (Jamaica).
Universal Sports Network and NBC will air 46 hours of premier track & field action from the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia from Saturday, August 10 through Sunday, August 18. The broadcast team of Ato Boldon, Tom Hammond, Lewis Johnson and Dwight Stones will call the action from Luzhniki stadium in Moscow, home of the 1980 Olympic Games.
