Oliver Landert Qualifies for Main Draw Singles at Regionals

Gator redshirt freshman Oliver Landert had a successful first day of action in Athens, Georgia, at the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships hosted by the University of Georgia Thursday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex as he secured a spot in the singles main draw.
Landert was one of three Gators that participated in qualifying play in the hopes of reaching the main draw. He defeated Graham Ball of Stetson in straight sets in round one, 6-1, 6-3, and later topped Georgia Tech's Cole Fiegel in three, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.
“I was happy to see Oliver battle his way through a couple of matches here today in singles,” said head coach Bryan Shelton. “He plays good tennis when he relaxes and plays aggressively.”
Two Florida doubles tandems opened doubles action Thursday, but both pairings dropped their first round matches.
“We didn't execute in the key moments with our doubles play tonight,” Shelton stated. “We are certainly a work in progress. We'll keep working at it and we will get better.”
UF's preseason ranked doubles teams, No. 42 Diego Hidalgo and Gordon Watson, and No. 39 Elliott Orkin and Maxx Lipman, received first round byes and will enter competition tomorrow. Those four as well as Chase Perez-Blanco and Landert close the day with first round main draw singles.
