USTA/ITA Southeast Regionals Day 3

Gators Ready for All-Florida Finals at Regionals
Sunday, October 19, 2014 | Women's Tennis
The Gators are in for a battle of the Orange & Blue in both the main draw singles and doubles finale to the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships in Atlanta, Georgia, at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex Monday.
No. 14-ranked, No. 3-seeded Brianna Morgan and No. 5 seed Josie Kuhlman will face off in a Gator versus Gator main draw singles final match to open the fourth and final day of Regionals competition Monday morning.
All three Gators that reached the quarterfinals advanced to the semifinal round. Gator rookies Kuhlman and Peggy Porter both defeated ranked opponents en route to the semifinals. Kuhlman topped No. 18-ranked and No. 4-seeded Stephanie Wagner of Miami in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5. Porter, the No. 7 seed, defeated No. 118-ranked and No. 15-seeded Natasha Prokhnevska of Georgia Tech, 6-4, 6-4. Gator junior Morgan needed three sets to defeat Miami's Sinead Lohan, 7-5, 2-6, 6-1.
The first all-Florida match up of the tournament occurred in the semifinals when Morgan faced Porter. The Gator veteran topped the Florida newcomer, 6-2, 6-2 to reach the final. Kuhlman swept the No. 1 seed of the tournament, No. 6-ranked Lauren Herring of Georgia, in the semifinals, 6-3, 6-2.
Florida rookies Kuhlman and Porter moved to 8-1 as a doubles duo this fall with a semifinal victory over Morgan and Belinda Woolcock, 6-2, 7-6(2). No. 6 seed Brooke Austin and Kourtney Keegan improved to 4-0 as a tandem when they secured their spot in the doubles final with a 6-3, 6-2 win over No. 7 seed Stephanie Wagner and Lina Lileikite of Miami. Thus, the doubles final features Kuhlman and Porter versus Keegan and Austin.
Head Coach Roland Thornqvist's Thoughts
On finding success on Day Three at Regionals…
We were outstanding again today. Once again, our fitness helped carry us through this difficult stretch of matches.
On the team's progress throughout the tournament…
Not only are we playing very well, but we are getting closer as a team as well. This team will be tough to beat if we continue this trend.
