ITA All-American Main Draw Day 1

Gordon Watson Drops First Round Match in ITA All-American Main Draw
Thursday, October 2, 2014 | Men's Tennis
Despite dropping his final qualifying match, junior Gordon Watson earned a spot in the 2014 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships main singles event by luck of the draw, but the Gator captain's quest for the singles title came to an end Thursday at the University of Tulsa.
Watson dropped his first round main draw singles match to No. 66 Sam Monette of Indiana, 6-2, 6-2.
“It is a nice accomplishment for Gordon to have made it to the main draw of a national collegiate event,” said volunteer assistant coach Scott Perelman. “Gordon did not play his best today, but I am very confident he will bounce back strong tomorrow.”
Although Watson can no longer play for the main draw singles title, he will enter consolation competition tomorrow for a chance at the back draw championship. Watson's consolation opponent will be determined by day's end. Live scoring can be found courtesy of Tulsa Golden Hurricane Tennis.
