Florida Women’s Golf in Third After Opening Round of Landfall Tradition

The University of Florida women's golf team opened competition at its fall season finale, The Landfall Tradition, on Friday. Gator sophomores Kelly Grassel and Maria Torres both recorded a pair of birdies on the back nine to finish the opening round -1 (71), and in a tie for 14th place overall. The rest of the Gator contingent sits in the top 30, with junior Ursa Orehek, freshman Taylor Tomlinson and sophomore Karolina Vlckova all recording +1 (73). Grassel and Torres each matched the season-low round for UF, last accomplished by Vlckova in Round 2 of the Cougar Classic on Sept. 15.
As a team, Florida finished the first day of competition in third place (288), while Purdue (283) leads the 18-team field by three strokes over Wake Forest (286) at the Country Club of Landfall Peter Dye Course. The Orange and Blue will be back at it Saturday for Round 2 of competition, when play on the par-72 course begins at 8:21 a.m.
