ITA All-American Main Draw Day 2

Gordon Watson Moves On in ITA All-American Main Draw Consolation
Friday, October 3, 2014 | Men's Tennis
Florida's Gordon Watson remains in the hunt for the 2014 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships main draw consolation singles title following a first round win Friday at the University of Tulsa.
No. 70-ranked Watson, a captain of this season's Gator squad, defeated UNC's Jack Murray in a hard fought match featuring two set tiebreaks, 7-6(5), 7-6(8).
“Gordon won a close match today,” said volunteer assistant coach Scott Perelman. “He was down four set points in the first set, but he never gave up. The weather conditions were tough today as well. The wind was blowing 15 to 25 miles per hour and the temperature dropped 20 degrees from yesterday, but he didn't allow those outside factors to affect his game.”
Watson moves one step closer to the back draw championship and will take on No. 25-ranked and 5-8 seeded Andrew Adams of South Carolina in the second round of consolation singles. If Watson continues his winning ways, he will play two matches tomorrow. Live scoring can be found courtesy of Tulsa Golden Hurricane Tennis.
