ITA All-American Main Draw Day 3

Gordon Watson Ends Resilient Run at ITA All-Americans
Saturday, October 4, 2014 | Men's Tennis
Florida junior Gordon Watson's quest for the 2014 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships main draw consolation singles title came to an end with a loss Saturday at the University of Tulsa.
No. 70-ranked Watson, a captain of this season's Gator squad, dropped straight sets to South Carolina's No. 25-ranked 5-8 seed Andrew Adams, 6-4, 6-4.
“Gordon got to play a lot of matches this week which is a positive,” said volunteer assistant coach Scott Perelman. “Now he needs to go back to work and continue to improve.”
Watson's journey to the ITA All-American main draw was unconventional. The Naples, Florida, native won two of three qualifying matches necessary to reach the main draw, falling in his final qualifying match. However, Watson was selected to the main draw via the “Lucky Loser” list. He was the last of three “Lucky Losers” chosen to the main event. Despite dropping his first main draw match, Watson managed to rebound with a consolation victory, but today's loss marked the end of the road for the Gator.
