Riviera/ITA All-American Championships Main Draw Day 3

Gators Reach the End of the Road at Riviera
Sunday, October 5, 2014 | Women's Tennis
All six Gators competing in the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships main draw ended their run Saturday at the Riviera Tennis Center.
Freshman Brooke Austin advanced the furthest of the Gators in the main draw, reaching the singles semifinals, but the Florida rookie dropped straight sets to the No. 6 seed in the tournament, UCLA's No. 7-ranked Channelle Van Nguyen, 6-2, 7-5. Despite the loss, Austin's achievement in reaching the semifinals ensured her an automatic bid into next month's National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, held at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York, November 6-9.
Gator doubles duos No. 13-ranked Kourtney Keegan and Belinda Woolcock as well as Josie Kuhlman and Peggy Porter both forced their respective opponents into third-set tie breaks, but were unable to seal the deal and fell short in the consolation doubles semifinals. The freshman tandem of Kuhlman and Porter played all the way through pre-qualifying and qualifying doubles to make their way to the main draw.
“I witnessed incredible effort all week from this team,” said associate head coach Dave Balogh. “Every day we got better and competed a little harder. That's all you can ask for as a coach. We just got outplayed today, but I'm very proud of these girls. We're certainly headed in the right direction.”
