Florida Invitational Day 2

Competition Ramps Up on Day Two of Florida Invite
Saturday, November 8, 2014 | Men's Tennis
The Gators went undefeated in doubles and picked up a number of hard fought singles victories on day two at the Florida Invitational Saturday at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Center in Gainesville.
Florida pulled off a perfect 7-0 sweep of its doubles opponents on the second day of their final fall tournament of the season.
The Gators displayed their competitive edge in singles, forcing two matches into three sets and challenging opponents to a number of set tiebreaks. No. 100 Maxx Lipman upset No. 31 Lloyd Glasspool of Texas, 7-6(3), 7-6(4). Fellow sophomore No. 68 Elliott Orkin dropped the first set against Texas' George Goldhoff, 6-7(3), but took two in a row to win the match (7-5, 6-1). The Orange & Blue went 6-2 in singles on the day.
“It was great to see the guys fighting today,” said co-captain Gordon Watson. “I feel like our competition was a little bit tougher today. I think my co-captain, Maxx Lipman did a stellar job, and to see the guys fighting on all eight courts was very encouraging because that's our main goal as a team, to always fight and bring good energy on every court. As a whole, it was a successful day, but there's certainly room for improvement. Moving forward, in preparation for the spring, we can work on sustaining a high level of play on all courts through the day, which will allow us to consistently improve and win more matches.”
The third and final day of action will begin Sunday at 10 a.m. starting with one round of doubles and concluding with a round of singles.
