STAKES, STARS & STATS
> The Gators and Dolphins are playing for the 10th time in the last 12 seasons, a run that includes a meeting in the 2009 NIT. Florida holds a 30-5 all-time advantage in the series that dates to 1960 and have won the last two. JU shocked UF 71-68 in overtime in 2010, an outcome that came against a team that ultimately won the 2011 Southeastern Conference. The Gators won 107-62 in 2011 and 86-60 last year at Jacksonville, where Scottie Wilbekin returned from a season-opening suspension to score 12 points, dish 7 assists and come up with 3 steals. Under Coach Billy Donovan, UF is 7-1 all-time vs JU.
> Florida has won two straight behind its best ball movement and shooting of the season. The Gators combined to average 59-percent shooting and 18.5 assists in victories over Yale and Texas Southern last week. ... Since returning to the starting lineup after two games coming off the bench, freshman forward Devin Robinson (6.9 ppg, 3.3 rpg; pictured right) has scored in double-figures two of the last three games, a span in which he's averaged 12.3 points on 52 percent from the floor and 55.5 from the 3-point line. ... Backup sophomore center Chris Walker (8.1 ppg, 4.1 rpg) played the first 22 games of his UF career (18 last year, 4 this year) without scoring in double-digits, with 7 points as his high game. He's hit doubles in three straight games, averaging 12.3 points and 60.7 percent from the field. ... Over the last three games, junior forward Dorian Finney-Smith (10.4 ppg, 5.0 rpg) is the only UF player to grab as many as seven rebounds in a game; that despite significant size advantages in the last two games. Donovan used Saturday's practice to put an emphasis on getting to the glass after Texas Southern nearly matched the Gators on the backboards (34-32). ... This could be the final game the Gators play without forward Alex Murphy, who transferred from Duke last December. The Gators hope the 6-8 Murphy will be eligible when the team plays Wake Forest in the Orange Bowl Classic at Sunrise, Fla., next Saturday. Murphy's eligibility becomes official when his fall semester grades are posted, thus giving him a full year at UF, per NCAA transfer rules.
> Jacksonville, out of the Atlantic Sun Conference, has dropped all eight of its games against Division-I opponents (including losses to Sanford, Appalachian State and Bethune-Cookman). The Dolphins' two wins came against NAIA foes Florida National and Trinity Baptist. ... JU is led by the backcourt of Andris Misters (13.9 ppg, 4.1 rpg) and Kori Babineaux (11.6 ppg, 4.6 rpg). Both players are decent 3-point threats (Misters 37.8; Babineaux 35.4), but the Dolphins are making just 36 percent of their overall field-goal attempts and 31 from the 3-point line. ... JU is averaging 14 turnovers per game and figure on seeing several bursts of the UF press.
SOME NUMBERS OF NOTE
* .000 -- Michael Frazier's 3-point percentage in the second half against Texas Southern. After going 2-for-2 in the first half, he missed all five attempts despite some decent looks. That won't happen very often.
* 1 -- Former Florida football player with play-by-play duties Sunday. As mentioned above, it'll be James Bates (right), linebacker and captain of UF”s 1996 national championship team (and recent inductee into the Florida-Georgia Hall of Fame), calling the game.
* 2.3 -- Steals per game for freshman guard Chris Choizza, which leads the team despite him being seventh on the squad in minutes per game.
* 8.3 -- Average assists by Gators point guard Kasey Hill over the last three games. Hill's season assists numbers stand at 5.1 per game.
* 20 -- Days until the Gators play another home game. UF has just two games over the next two-plus weeks, with the trip to Sunrise before Christmas break and roadie to Florida State on Dec. 30, then is back in the O'Dome on Jan. 3 to face defending national champion Connecticut.
WATCH FOR IT
A few more minutes from guard Eli Carter, who returned to action for 14 minutes worth Friday after missing the three of the previous five games -- and struggling with his shot (2-for-18) in the two games he did play, both in the Bahamas -- with a foot sprain. Donovan knows Carter's outside shooting threat (he's 7-for-10 from distance in games played in the U.S., for what that's worth) and dribble-drive skills will better space the floor and make Hill all the more dangerous.
